Avoiding BPA
Avoid bisphenol A

New, large, important studies tonight are linking the chemical bisphenol A to health problems.

Significant health problems:  Heart disease, diabetes and liver abnormalities.

Congress is opening an investigation into how the FDA has regulated the chemical.  The agency had recently deemed the product safe for food and beverage packaging.  A final report is expected later this month.  The FDA maintains that BPA is safe largely on the basis of two studies funded by the chemical industry, while it downplays the results of hundreds of other studies.

The National Toxicology Program of the Department of Health and Human Services has compiled tips for reducing exposure to bisphenol A (BPA), click here and here for more from the Washington Post.
